Sunflowers

July 22, 2017

Sunflowers…

  •  Birds lov’em
  •  Squirrels and chipmunks lov’em
  •  Ballplayers lov’em

At least they love the seeds.

Artists and bumblebees love the flowers themselves,  and so do my daughter and I. That’s why we have been to two different Sunflower Festivals this year. We have gone to both Copper Creek Farm in Calhoun, GA. and Anderson’s Sunflower Farm in Cumming, GA.

Anderson’s charges entry by the car, and is mainly for picking sunflowers and photo ops. The farm is scenic with an old, picturesque barn, old trucks and farm equipment. The opportunity for great pictures is terrific and very popular with both amateur and professional photographers. My only complaint was bugs. My advice: take bug spray. Anderson’s sunflowers came in late this year, so they are still up and going. They also sell local honey, sunflower crafts, lemonade and the choice to select flowers they have picked or pick your own.

Copper Creek charges based on what you want to do, general admission or,  pick flowers, race pigs, pony rides, pumpkin cannon shots, Animated Chicken Show, Bunnyville, Gem mining, Jumping Pillow, hayrides and the Cow Train. Most of these activities are to keep the kids busy and they definately are entertaining. Additionally, fresh squeezed lemonade and various carnival style foods are available, as well as face painting, goat milking and a corn maze. Since Copper Creek Farms flowers came in earlier this year, they are already finished for the season. Keep it in mind for an entertaining day out next year for the whole family.

While I don’t want to bad-mouth any place I post about, I will say that there is one place I would go over the other next year. If I had young children, I would find more for them to do at Copper Creek. Since I have grown children and I’m not really in to pig racing and goat milking, not to mention, jumping on a giant pillow, I’ll personally return to Anderson’s for the view, picture ops and simplicity.

The choice is yours for next year. This year, it will have to be Anderson’s for now.
