Java Joints

March 3, 2017

Java, Joe, Coffee, Dirt, Mud, Brew, Cuppa, Cafe, no matter what you call it, there’s a unique place out there to get it. And, it’s not necessarily a chain. That special place could be just around the corner. It’s kinda’ nice to walk into your local coffee house and have the barista ask “the usual?” That’s why I want to introduce you to three out of the way and out of the norm coffee shops that I’ve come across. One is local and the other two I found while day trippin’ around Florida.

The Corner Cup

In among all the auto repair and tire shops up and down Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker/Decatur, there is a little jewel of a coffee shop called The Corner Cup. I stopped in after reading about it on a local Facebook page. The Corner Cup, locally owned and operated by three friends, does not disappoint.

Local art covers the walls, bagels are furnished by the Emerald City Bagels and pastries are furnished by Duck’s Cosmic Kitchen(one of my favorite places, more in a future post).

Corner Cup is a great place to meet friends, old and new, get a good cup of coffee and get some work done on the Internet.

I’m sold on the friendly atmosphere and owner/baristas!

The Bikery

For a unique dual purpose combo, may I recommend The Bikery Coffee Shop in St. Pete, FL’s Art district?

While walking around this artsy area of St. Pete one morning, looking at murals and checking out the unique shops, we discovered the Bikery.

What a surprise to find a craft coffee shop in a bike shop! While having bikes, bike gear, riding classes and clubs, the Bikery also has great coffee, tea and pastries. Such a neat find while just wandering around. (more about the St Pete Art District in a future post) .

Better Than Sex

Last, but definitely not least, I give you, Better Than Sex.

I know you think it’s a sex shop, it is Key West after all. Well, so did we when we walked by, at least until we asked our hotel concierge where we could get some coffee and dessert. He recommended Better Than Sex. Assuming he misunderstood, we repeated that we just wanted coffee and dessert. Again, he said Better Than Sex, so we walked over to the dark corner building, just a couple of blocks from the Southernmost point of the island, and entered a place decorated in red velvet, black lace, and small secluded tables; a very romantic and sensual atmosphere.

To say the “dessert” coffees were decadent, just might be an understatement! Over the top! Right along with the unusual, rich, delicious desserts. While it might be a stretch to call it a coffee shop, we found coffee here like we’ve found nowhere else. Coffee IS a dessert here, with caramel or chocolate dripping down the sides of the glass, for example. If you don’t believe me, check out their website. When you get past the name, you’re in for a treat!
